Menstrual irregularities and blood between regular cycles are both examples of irregular vaginal bleeding. The latter kind of bleeding can be heavier or just a little bit of “spotting” every now and then. Sometimes hormonal changes might cause irregular periods, such as during adolescence or as you get closer to menopause. However, bleeding between periods can occasionally be an indication of a significant underlying condition and should be looked into by your doctor, especially if it is accompanied by pain or occurs in an older woman.
HYSTERECTOMY
The removal of the uterus, or a hysterectomy, is a major procedure that can be done for a number of reasons. It is frequently done as part of the treatment for uterine cancer, but it may also be done in cases of cervical cancer, large fibroids (benign growths in the uterus), or uncontrollable, irregular menstrual bleeding. When there are no life-threatening conditions present, a hysterectomy is typically only advised after a thorough conversation between the patient and the doctor and when the patient is certain she no longer wants to have children.
There are several hysterectomy procedures, which vary depending on the location of the incision and whether the ovaries or fallopian tubes are removed. To prevent hormonal disruption in premenopausal women, doctors try to preserve at least one ovary.
After a hysterectomy
You won’t be able to get pregnant after a hysterectomy, and you won’t have periods anymore. You will be able to have a normal sexual life, though, and the majority of medical professionals advise hysterectomy patients to start dating again as soon as they feel well enough to do so. Hormone replacement therapy will be administered to a patient who has had both ovaries removed but hasn’t yet reached menopause in order to prevent the symptoms of a premature menopause. It might take some time for some women, particularly younger ones, to intellectually and emotionally adjust to the loss of their uterus. Your doctor will understand these emotions and might be able to provide counseling following the procedure.
