Nearly everyone occasionally experiences headaches that start out gradually and go away in a few hours without any lasting symptoms. Headaches like this are exceedingly unlikely to be a sign of any disorder and are usually caused by variables such as strain, fatigue, excessive use of alcohol, or being in an overheated or smoke-filled atmosphere. However, you should consult your doctor if your headache is severe, last for more than 24 hours, or reappears more than once in a week.
HEADACHE RELIEF
- These self-care techniques can usually ease most minor headaches:
- Use acetaminophen or acetylsalicylic acid as recommended.
- Drink lots of clear, non-alcoholic beverages or water.
- Take a relaxing bath to ease tension.
- Take a nap in a peaceful, well-lit space.
If these don’t work or if the discomfort is still there the next day, speak with your doctor.
