Pain between the bottom of the ribcage and the groin may indicate a wide range of conditions affecting the reproductive, urinary, or digestive systems. Although minor digestive upsets typically cause abdominal pain, severe and persistent pain should always be treated by a doctor right away.
CAUTION!
Intense abdominal pain
The following situations necessitate immediate medical attention for severe and persistent abdominal pain:
-
- If it lasts more than 4 hours.
-
- if vomiting is present but does not provide relief.
-
- if the stomach is tender and swollen.
-
- if drowsiness and/or faintness are present.
Waiting medical assistance
Do not eat or drink anything while you wait for medical assistance to arrive in case you need to have surgery right away. Avoid using medicines to treat the discomfort or drinking alcohol because these actions can aggravate an already irritable stomach and postpone diagnosis.
