There is no requirement that a kid have a bowel movement every day. While some kids defecate multiple times a day, others only do so once every three days. As long as your child is healthy and the stools are not painfully hard or uncomfortable, both extremes are completely normal. Changes in diet, minor illnesses, or psychological worry can temporarily change your child’s regular bowel rhythms.
CAUTION!
Laxatives
Except when specifically prescribed by your doctor, laxatives (medications that accelerate the passage of food waste through the bowel) should not be used to address constipation in children. These medications interfere with regular bowel responses and could be harmful in some situations. The safe, natural method to ensure normal bowel rhythms in your kid is to increase the amount of fluid, fruit, and vegetables in their diet.
