Vomiting is the act of “throwing up” your stomach’s contents with force. It is simple to confuse this in newborn babies with regurgitation, which is the effortless returning of small amounts of milk during or immediately after a feed. A newborn can vomit once from almost any small disturbance, but frequent vomiting can indicate a serious illness.
CAUTION!
Continual vomiting
There is a chance that your infant could become dehydrated and lose a hazardous amount of bodily fluid if the vomiting continues. Your infant is more likely to become dehydrated if they have regular, watery stools. Call your doctor right away if your baby vomits for six straight hours without stopping, regardless of the probable cause, or if any of the symptoms listed below are present.
- Fontanelle, the soft place on the top of a baby’s head, or sunken eyes
- Dry mouth
- More than three hours with a dry diaper
- Unusual sluggishness or agitation
- Lack of skin elasticity
